Questions to ask of Portraiture






  1. What is the subject of the photograph?
2. When and where was the picture taken?
3. What happened just before the picture was taken?
4. What does the subject look like?
5. What is the subject doing?
6. What is the subject thinking?
7. Who is taking the photograph?
8. What happened just after this picture was taken?
9. How did you develop your personal philosophy to this
picture?
10.How does it make you feel?
11. How ‘technically’ good is it? Comment on the framing, composition, lighting, colour, black and white constrast.

12. If you had to give this a title what would it be and why?

13.      Why would a photographer want to take candid pictures of people he or she does not know?
14.      What is the role of photographs in preserving the history of a family or an event?
15.      Do you think that photographers have a responsibility to the people they photograph? To what extent? Why?
